Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder in which breathing is repeatedly interrupted during sleep. This disrupts restful sleep, and the repeated cycles of decreased oxygen can lead to very serious consequences. Signs that you may have sleep apnea include:
Excessive and loud disruptive snoring
Grinding or clenching teeth while you sleep
Frequent awakenings throughout the night
Lower energy, grogginess, or irritability throughout the day
The feeling that you never get enough sleep no matter what time you go to bed
Sleep apnea and sleep disordered breathing is a tremendous impact on a person’s quality of life. Ignoring sleep apnea can cause the immune system to be suppressed, making it more difficult to stay healthy as individuals might encounter high blood pressure, stress, sleep deprivation, depression, chronic fatigue, and the inability to concentrate. Which is why at Sloan Creek Dental, we address the side effects and long-term health implications of sleep apnea, and provide sleep apnea treatment with our holistic and minimally-invasive treatments. We can provide a solution to get you back to sleeping naturally and feeling like yourself.
We take a unique approach to treating sleep apnea. We know that traditional treatments, like a CPAP machine, can be cumbersome and difficult to manage which is why at Sloan Creek Dental, we use either the Nightlase laser airway therapy or we use a dental oral appliance to treat sleep apnea.
By using the NightLase laser airway therapy, we use a laser to tighten the tissues at the back of the throat which reduces airway obstruction which allows you to sleep better and feel better. The benefits of using the NightLase laser airway therapy is that you won’t need to wear a mouthpiece while you sleep.Â
When we use a dental oral appliance, we use a mouthpiece called an oral appliance while you sleep. During this process, an oral appliance helps open up your airway by adjusting the position of your jaw and the oral appliance prevents your jaw and sometimes even your tongue from moving backwards as you sleep. Â
Both options requires no surgery, is non-invasive, and is our recommended course of sleep apnea treatment.
